Back in September I bought a nicely-loaded Nissan Rogue. It came with XM Radio built in with a 3-month trial subscription to their programming and their traffic reporting system. I listened. Meh, I suppose it’s alright. The traffic report? Only a few major highways show information and it’s never up to date. Then the end of the trial period neared. That’s really where the trouble began. If you want the gory details, read on. Otherwise, here’s the verdict: run the fuck away.
Continue readingFreeware Spam
I was looking for a better “popular posts” plug-in for WordPress yesterday, so I tried one in particular (no, I won’t name it). Shortly after installing it, I was auto-spammed by the author using my own address as the sender. I became annoyed. Jackassery ensued.
Continue readingZendesk Saga
Mikkel Svane ( @mikkelsvane ), CEO of Zendesk, made what must have been quite a difficult apology (since removed) for the price increase fiasco two days ago. What are my thoughts? Well, I’m not quite sure.

At the very end of last week, I started a one-month free trial with Zendesk, a web-based help desk a la FogBugz. I chose it for its simplicity and am so far happy with the system itself, even with a minor technical hiccup. It’s the crazy-girlfriend-like sales tactics that bug me a little (a lot).
Continue readingMozy Online Backup
I gave Mozy’s online backup service a try. This is partially due to my effort to unburden myself as mentioned in my “Real Work” post. Two days after signing up, I was given a refund for my year of prepaid service (minus 10% “credit card processing fee”). What went wrong?

Today I decided to cancel my “Privacy Assist” credit monitoring account through Bank of America. Fun times, fun times.
Continue readingiStockphoto – DO NOT WANT
Ah, iStockphoto. They bother me. They really do. Their “credits” system – a throwback to carnival days – is just plain hostile toward consumers and only benefits them. Why do consumers support businesses that use these systems?
