I’ve been gone awhile. A lot has happened. A lot continues to happen. I’ll write about it eventually, but for the next little while I’ll work toward getting some of the useful content from my (purposefully shuttered) previous site but in the meantime, I’ll let this post stand as a marker, delineating the break in my over-year-long disappearance from the Web. See you all in a bit. In the meantime, I’ve been back on Twitter for awhile. Stalk me there.
It’s been a month since I lost my oldest cat, Cara. I rescued her when she was a very small palm-sized kitten, her little flagpole tail sticking up everywhere she ran. She nearly died then due to an upper respiratory infection that was spread around the shelter. Due to the kindness of the man who (almost forcibly) adopted her for me, she got treated just in time – such infections can be deadly for kittens. She became Daddy’s girl. To me she was a sweet, loving, insightful companion. To others she was a holy fucking terror. She didn’t like people much. She didn’t like other cats either. In fact, Cara didn’t like most things. Those who love and respect the special bonds we can form with animals – the bonds that show us that the term “people” is a bit too specific to a certain know-it-all species – can skip this. The problems didn’t stop at pets, though.Continue reading
Back when I was a young, pimply geek, I trashed Apple like it was going out of style. Little did I know it would. Crapple. Crapintosh. MacIntrash. I’ve used them all. It wasn’t until 2000 (after falling in love with Linux) that I discovered a modern Unix with a unified UI. A Mac I liked. A Mac that ran Unix.Continue reading
My friend @tristanx pointed out an interesting, if random, blog post. He’s good at this. It was titled How I Botched A Budding E-Romance. It was a thoughtful admission of a regrettable mistake on the part of Stephanie (the author). I found it interesting enough I checked out another post on her home page: 12 Reasons Why It’s Time To Leave The Party And Go Home. It raised another introspective issue that struck home. I’d like your opinion about it.Continue reading
Some time ago, I took a hard look at my career and how it affects my life. I decided I needed to make some changes and began maneuvering myself toward those goals. Today I’m happy to announce I’m moving on to a new phase in my career.Continue reading
