Bing Crosby’s Christmas song is playing everywhere this time of year. It’s literally not what it sounds like.

The song says:

Mele kalikimaka is Hawaii’s way 
to say merry Christmas to you.

Not surprisingly, it’s bullshit arising from a misunderstanding.

Before I ever knew that, I always assumed it was real Hawaiian language but the natives just snickered and said, “Yeah sure, it means Merry Christmas” when in reality it meant, “give us back our fucking islands, White Devil!”
