As soon as LiveDrive came out with their Mac Technology preview I switched to it and uninstalled Mozy. It isn't perfect but it works, the briefcase is excellent and the price is reasonable. I have over 400GB up there between five computers.

I'd accidentally let Mozy autorenew my subscription but wasn't going to let it happen this time, especially with their new, more expensive, non-unlimited space policy. Looking at my backup via their web interface, I decided to spend the $48 for a DVD set to be sent to me.

Except for the fact that they wanted $40 for shipping and handling! They only offer FedEx next day. Needless to say I didn't order it.

My backup strategy currently consists of cloning (automatic) to another attached drive with a Livedrive copy of my home folders. I also have offsite backups on hard drives and DVDs of much of it.

I'm planning on setting up a multi-terabyte raid server similar to what you've blogged, probably using a NAS system, and then offline that to the cloud as well.

I guess I'll be mocked openly but here goes. I thought what a great idea a company that will back up my data daily and save me the grief of having to remember to spin things into an external hard drive that would most likely burn up with my business because heaven knows I'm not going to back up and pack the hard drive away. So I sign up, for three PC's at our business.

Three months later my wife opens a UPS looking Trojan Horse Virus and poof there goes her data. Okay no problem Mozy Man to the rescue. The data wasn't there. What? I see on my Back Up Sets that I've indicated that it's to be backed up. I've been getting a little alert every day when I log on that my "last back up was done X hours ago". Yet when I contact Mozy to ask why all of my images didn't restore the nice gentlemen from India or Malaysia couldn't really say. Why couldn't he? Because he didn't have a frigging clue why they weren't there. Mozy was never able to give me back the images.

Now I know why Mozy just gave up trying to put them on.

Now let's move to this week.

Yeah we had some rain in San Diego!

Boo San Diego Gas & Electric turned off the power to the entire block without giving warning like I asked them to.

Boo it fried my hard drive! No worries I've been backing up on Mozy

Mozy Man to the rescue (wait for it, wait for it), you got it no data there.

Mozy said I know you told us to back up Quick Books data, but we're only going to back up the program files unless you tell us to go find a special file that you created in Quick Books and ask us pretty please to back that one up too.

Okay... one time shame on Mozy! Two times shame on me. Lesson learned this time it only took me getting bashed over the head (metaphor-dataiclly) twice.

So now what Amazon, Carbonite...bullshit I'm going to get my little external hard drive, and I will love it, and I will cuddle it, and it will be my little friend.

SHIT!

Hi, I also have really bad experience with Mozy.
Everytime I sent my computer to sleep I lose all my back-up. I am not so great with computers and I just can't figure out by myself how to halt the backup process and then resume it later. Maybe because there is not such an option.
I have not had a successful back-up in two weeks.
For support questions: I did not find a hotline or a support related email option on the website, but I found plenty of sales email options.
(Maybe the numbers are there, it is just that they are not easy to find.)

I am disappointed from Mozy. I expected more. It seems to be useless.
